Our Handmade Paper products are
manufactured in the Northern Thailand. Mulberry paper or Saa paper
(as called in Thailand) is made from the bark of the mulberry
trees .The bark is stripped from the trees annually in a manner
that ensures the tree is unharmed . In general, it is misunderstood
that papers consume the forest. On the contrary, paper causes
to make forest.
The
manufacturing of handmade papers is achieved largely by manual
labor and, therefore, production is of limited quantity. Using
only local materials and following ancient techniques that have
been handed down for generations, the bark is grown down into
a pulp and boiled to remove the glue that holds the fibers together.
When this process is complete, the pulp is washed and bleached
until it is almost white and is then laid out on sheets of very
fine screening. Prior to this, it may have been dyed, otherwise
treated dry under the hot Northern Thai sun. Sometimes, flowers
are added to the pulp and, thereby, the sheets are ready to be
further processed. Its quaint, primitive and soft gentle appearance
make it ideal for greeting cards, gift bags, stationary and boxes
.
